This has been a long time coming. I started to show you a tour of our “garage turned dining room” in January, but then I was delayed in showing this corner because it’s where I had tons of stuff stored for renovations on the “Little Brick Cottage”, but finally, it’s ready to be seen by blogland!
Finally you can get the perspective of the whole room, well the whole half of the room, the other half was behind me when I took this pic. But in this pic you can now see the black rescued bench by the entry doors, and the baker’s table under the arched window we got on clearance at Home Depot and used antique stained glass window for shutters on it, and the black plate shelf I finally put into good use.
We have these super comfortable rush seat chairs with our table. They are kinda wide and we could probably squeeze a few more seats around the table if we went with a narrower chair, but so far this is what we use, as our family grows, then we’ll work on that.
But for now, we make good use of this bench, it allows some dining squeezing to happen, to accommodate an extra person, or two. All the little grandchildren can fit together on it, no problem.
And here you can see the step-back cupboard/hutch I ordered from Ballard Designs on the other end of our table. Also the pair of chandeliers I adapted to fit on a track light. The table is so long that we really needed to have 2 chandeliers, so the track worked great
At the top you can see the French doors we installed between the new dining room (old garage) and living room, to help the house be united.
The table we ordered from Pottery Barn. I watched it for a long time until it went on clearance. I loved the metal base with distressed top. Once we started using it though the original finish kept popping off, it was a nightmare. Pottery Barn was great though, they totally paid to have it completely refinished. I just kick myself for not being more on top of the actual process though. The gentleman that did the work had to sand off the old finish and sanded most of the distressing with it. I didn’t catch it until the new finish was on, so I just didn’t have the heart to have him redo it. (Any suggestions on getting a distressed finish back into it at this point?)
Here you can see the little bit of distressing that’s left on it. But the new finish he put on has been completely waterproof, so that’s great.
The iron legs and crossbars below have such unique character. And the table is super sturdy, another thing that was a must for me.
After 30 years of marriage, this is the first dining table I bought. When we were first married with little babies, my dad made a trestle table for us and we love it, it’s so full of memories and ‘real distressing’ from our family growing up around it , (and on it!) so it has a special place in our sunroom now and usually that’s where we sit to eat, but when the whole family is home now, and we need the room, this ‘new’ table is where we make dining memories.
As always, please feel free to share this blog with your friends, as well as on Facebook and Pinterest the more the merrier!
I appreciate you stopping by.

You have the most beautiful dining room!! Love that you changed your garage into a dining room. I have a HUGE garage too… it’s the same exact size as my house.. Wonder if my hubby would let me transform it in our dining room?
