So, what’s up with the name change to our blog? Well, in a nutshell, we sold our home the fall of 2013…

that’s the home I blogged about under the old name DecorateWithaLittleBit.com (which is now an inactive web address) and with that home sale came so many changes and new things.

1. The most obvious, a new home. Which isn’t new at all, it actually was built just after the turn of the last century. We are still trying to firmly date it, but one of the previous owners is pretty sure it was built right around 1906, so we’ll just call it around a 100 years old. It’s a great old home, but needed a lot of work to bring it back to it’s glory day in a transformation that hasn’t stolen it’s former beauty or age, but has brought it up to date to hopefully last another 100 years. Some projects fun, and some not so fun, but necessary. And have you noticed that the ‘not so fun projects’ seem to cost the most too?

2. Still in the Midwest, but unlike our last house, we are no longer living in the country, we are now in a small Wisconsin town, located about 30 miles East of St. Paul, MN. I love to travel and have had the ability to go on many road trips with my husband over the years. I’ve personally seen so many, what I would call ‘subcultures’, of the United States, but I really love living right here, right smack dab in the heart of the Midwest. Our small midwestern town was built by generations of pioneers and pioneer-minded folks that have worked hard to carve out a spot to earn a living and raise their families in a safe, community centered environment. I love that work ethic and desire to create a place one can feel good about calling ‘home’.

3. Ah, but what about the ‘DownEast cottage’ part of the tagline on the new blog name?

Well, we also love the coast of southern Maine. And we’re so fortunate to be able to have traveled and stayed on the southern coast of Maine for many summers. So what’s new about that?

I now have the charge of decorating this small cottage that sits on the edge of the woods about 1 mile from the Atlantic Ocean in southern Maine. Though maybe not exactly in what ‘Mainers’ refer to as Downeast, which is a little more North, up the coast from where this cottage is, it’s close enough and some of us ‘landlubbers’ refer to the whole coast of Maine as ‘DownEast’.

So that’s what’s it’s all about. I hope you can follow along with me as I write about projects and restoring our 100 year old house in the Midwest and on decorating the small cottage, (with a smaller budget) on the coast of Maine. Oh, and I’ll be throwing in an occasional bit about someone interesting or someplace interesting I’ve traveled to too.
