Striped Candlestick Centerpiece
Creating new centerpieces is a favorite activity of mine. Our dining table is a main thoroughfare, and is the main vision upon entering the front door, so it bears some responsibility to say a little something. This striped candlesticks centerpiece does just that… it says a little something fun!

One of my favorite stops…
I didn’t go in really looking for anything special. Then I spotted them, and instantly knew I was shopping for them…
There was just something fun and yet elegant in the look of these striped candles from World Market. They had 3 colors that were the perfect colorway for my spring and summer colorway in the dining room.
Then I started looking for candlesticks… I started by thinking I wanted rustic wood, but didn’t see anything really that I loved. I then found, with a little searching, 3 pairs of different height clear glass candlesticks. Perfect, I thought… very different from the original thought of rustic wood, but this would be nice for summer.
The glass will keep it light and airy, and the varying height will be just enough interest for them to stand on their own, creating a centerpiece with just that.
They are so fresh and the colors do just what I wanted, they pull from and repeat the accent colors. Looking toward the dark gray of the built-in sideboard the candlesticks offer up a nice light contrast.
From the dining room looking towards the living room and front entry, (click here to see the front entry portiere) they look great too. It’s hard to see in this picture, but the antique settee and chair beyond in the living room are upholstered in a striped fabric, and these candles sort of re-interpret that stripe.
Although my granddaughter keeps trying to match the pairs up, I like the candlesticks arranged so that the over all shape is elongated, like the table, with the taller ones in the center. But not looking too fussed with.

Lovely! Light and fresh…just like you wanted. I don’t think you ever gave a tour of your dining room before….love those chairs! On my table…a brass tray over 2 navy placemats, with coral, a jade plant in a blue and white pot, and a blue/white porcelain box…for now!

Hi Liz! I like your interesting but simple centerpiece-I think I’d like to try something similar. I think even I can manage that!
What really caught my eye, though, is the plates on the plate-rail/molding above your charming built-in dining room hutch! I had been thinking about doing something similar on the soffit above my kitchen cabinets,by adding some molding along the bottom of the soffit to act as a “plate-rail” just like that ( in addition to also adding some crown molding at the top of the soffit in order to turn the soffit into an interesting architectural element instead of a bulky bulk-head!) I love interesting and beautiful china as decorative displays.
Could you please sometime share with your readers the details of your plate-rail there, such as what kind of molding it is, how wide, and is there a plate rail groove in it? Did you need to add anything else to keep the plates from falling off? I imagine that there are other readers of yours out there who might want to consider doing the same thing-if not on a built-in hutch or soffit, perhaps on a decorative range hood or elsewhere. (I am a new subscriber, so if you have already posted info on that, please let me know where I can find it! ) Thank you so very much.

Those candle sticks are great. I always love shopping at World Market. Just wish there was one closer to my house instead of across town.
