Inspiration for Colors

The kitchen in our 100 year old house is mostly white with gray and pale yellow with aged maple floors. That’s why when I found some vintage oak stools, they just weren’t doing the trick. I needed to find some inspiration for colors from something and here’s what it was…

Creating a Verdigris Faux Finish on Pressed Tin Tile

Part of moving to a new, albeit 100 year old house, is figuring out what existing furniture will work in the new setting. With our recent move, I have been ‘fine tuning’ some of those pieces even a little more… and creating a new verdigris faux finish on the antique tin tile was breathing new life and a new purpose into an existing piece from our former house. Here’s why and how I did this verdigris faux finish…

Easter Hope Sign

“…hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is lovingkindness, And with Him is abundant redemption.” Psalm 130:7

Inspired by a sign from Fyne’s Designs, I had pinned onto my Easter Pinterest board a while back, the other day I set about making my own version of a H-O-P-E sign. (there are shopping links towards the end of this post, if you’re inspired to make one yourself) Read the rest of this entry

Wallies… I Had No Idea

When it came time for me to do something with the walls in our very small front entry, I had envisioned wallpaper. Unfortunately though, sometimes I can envision too well for my own good, and so when I went shopping for wallpaper, I really couldn’t find the pattern and color that I had created in my mind for these walls. Christmas Message on Chalkboard

In our kitchen, we have a large chalkboard I bought from Ballard Designs 8 or 10 years ago, at least. I’ve always had it in the kitchen or hanging close to the kitchen, even in our former house, and always have a Bible verse on it.

I used to just try to neatly print a verse out, but with all the super cute and amazing chalkboard designs, I’ve been inspired to do the chalkboard verse more like art. (I even started a chalkboard design pinterest board) If you have any chalkboard designs on Pinterest you’d like to share, send them to me and I’ll pin them on my board too!

Here’s the Christmas verse that spoke to me this year.

Someone Else’s House: Vintage Bungalow Enclosed Front Porch

One more room to see from the vintage craftsman style bungalow I’ve showed you so many rooms to…

The enclosed front porch.

This is how it looked when they went through the house to see if they wanted to buy it…

Doesn’t look too bad, but once they closed on the house purchase, click here to read the rest of the story…

Our House: These Chalkboard Labels Aren’t What You Think They Are

We just finished the wet bar in the family room at ‘Our House’, and I’ve had a lot of fun with the accessories. I already showed you how I installed the shelf with a vintage candy box and soda pop collection above the counter. (if you missed that, click here)

So for on the counter, I wanted just a few cute things, that I didn’t have to spend a bunch of money or time on. When I saw these retro jars at Target the other day, I thought, ‘perfect!’

This is what they looked like before the labels: click here to read the rest of the story…

Someone Else’s House: Drastically Change a Vintage Fireplace with Paint and a Little Bit of Fabric

Can you believe it? The same fireplace in in both these pictures, and no structural changes were made… just a little bit of paint and fabric… and elbow grease.

Yes, this is what they started out with: click here to read the rest of the story…

Our House: Lower Level Hallway Walls Get a DIY Faux Leather Treatment

In the hallway of our lower level, I wanted to create some interest on the walls without adding pattern.

My answer was this:

This shows the wall where the DIY vintage looking sign hangs. See how the wall is a wrinkled leather finish? Well, it’s not leather, it’s click here to read the rest of the story…

Someone Else’s House: Vintage Bungalow… Turning the Kitchen into a Masterpiece and All on a Budget

We’re back to visit the antique craftsman style home we’ve been touring. Little bit by little bit, we’ve seen some really clever and super cute transformations in this young couple’s first home, and the subject of today’s post is no exception to that.

When they bought this antique house, the kitchen, unfortunately had been re-done in the 1980’s. In which, the previous owners had completely stripped down and removed every original surface… appliances, floor, trim and window from the original home gone, and replaced with that famous, generic looking 80’s style. click here to read the rest of the story…
