Our House… I Really Love Handsome Furniture

Several years ago, my husband and I were heading over to the cities. We live in NW Wisconsin, just about 20 or 30 miles East of St. Paul/Minneapolis, MN, and for those of you not from around here, they’re known as ‘the twin cities’… but locals shorten that to ‘the cities’.

So back to my story…

We were heading west, and driving through one of the suburbs we spotted an ‘estate sale’ sign. Those are the best sales and even though we were a day late from the opener, there still were a few treasures, and I think we got the best treasure of all… click here to read the rest of the story…

How, Where, When and How I Use Mulch in My Landscape

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Scotts Miracle-Gro for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

We have a quite a bit of landscaping at ‘Our House‘, now that the snow has melted, we’re finally celebrating the weather this last week, it’s been a gorgeous mid 60’s and 70’s! Yay!! Last weekend we got 6″ of snow!! I’m not kidding! It’s been a long winter and days like this last weekend are days to celebrate for sure…

All us ‘Northern Wisconsinites’ crawl out of our houses, like bears just waking up from hibernation, rub our eyes, and then do a little ‘jig’ in the lawn when we realize we’re not going to get frostbit or need to snowblow the driveway before we can leave.

Instead, we run to the barn,

push aside the shovels and snowblowers to look for gardening supplies hoping there is something we can do outside, but in reality, the ground is frozen 6″ below the top for a few more weeks, so we’re limited to picking up branches, cutting off last years foliage from the perennials, and one more thing… click here to read the rest of the story…

Neighborhood Tour… Visiting the Pottery Barn Outlet!

I was in Ohio last week visiting my son, I shared with you part 1 and part 2 of his amazing attic reno project he did himself. While I was there, I finally had an opportunity to go to the Pottery Barn Outlet that’s just about 45 minutes south of Columbus.

I think there are only about 8 Pottery Barn Outlet stores sprinkled around the US, so I’m fortunate there is one located so close to Columbus. (if you’re wondering if one is by you, here’s the list: Pottery Barn Locations) and if you’re not close, would it be worth the trip? Well here’s my experience…

Someone Else’s House: Amazing Attic Remodel (part 1 of 2)

Update!!!

Here is the before and after of the amazing attic… this is the living room, that’s the room below the attic…

Well, it really isn’t even fair to call it a ‘remodel’ because it was just an attic with a little hatch in the ceiling of the 2nd floor for access.

Then once up there, it was completely unfinished space with insulation on the floor.

Whose house is it?

Well, it’s my son’s house in Columbus, Ohio. This is a vintage circa 1930’s duplex in the Grandview area of Columbus.

I don’t have any before pics, just updated with the one before pic… and here are a few details of his amazing work and creativity, and how he transformed this completely unused space into a remarkable whole other additional floor with 3 more rooms to add to his house!

I just have to start by saying although this probably isn’t the way most people would start, my son is quite adventurous and willing to try just about anything, usually approaching a project and ‘figuring it out’ as he goes along… This was no exception to that system he’s perfected… (and by the way, he’s not a carpenter by trade, he’s an engineer… and specializes in computer software, but honestly, can do just about anything you put before him… ok, enough bragging)

So as the story goes, one evening when a couple buddies were over, click here to read the rest of the story…
